The Fishing Factor series describes the effect of sport fishing in the places where it occurs, both politically and geographically. The program addresses the development of sustainable tourism and the consequences of fishing tourism in the region.

On Monday afternoon (28), the team of Clube da Pesca.org, an independent production company that offers a documentary series on the Amazon Prime streaming service, composed of director and co-producer Thiago Henrique Fantini and videographer and documentary filmmaker, Cezar Roberto Oliveira and documentary filmmaker Bruno Fernandes, arrived in Guarapuava for the recording of one of their episodes.

The documentary series Fishing Factor, launched in 2022 on Amazon Prime International, will discuss, in Guarapuava, rainbow trout fishing, a species highly sought after by those who practice sport fishing.

“It’s great to see Guarapuava being recognized for its natural beauties and, above all, to see the name of the city taken up in an international air so far. It shows how far we are going. Guarapuava is a tourist city and this recognition shows us that we are on the right track, building a place that attracts more and more tourists who move the economy of large and small entrepreneurs,” said Mayor Celso Góes.

“For us, this is very important, because the more people who are interested in showing our city to the outside world, the better, especially in such an important transmission in the fishing world. In this environment of experiential tourism and rural tourism, there is much to explore and integrate. For us, by spreading the name of Guarapuava more and more and the more it appears, the more our attractions will be shown and the more visitors we will have in Guarapuava”, underlined the secretary of Tourism and Events of the municipality, Katriane Mila.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, in 2022 fishing generated billions of dollars in commercial and recreational sales, demonstrating that the practice is a major tourist attraction for Brazil.

According to director and co-producer Thiago Henrique Fantini, the aim of the series is to describe the effect of the exploitation of sport fishing in the places where it occurs, both politically and geographically, by addressing the development sustainable tourism. and the consequences of the practice of tourism and fishing in the region.

“Basically, we chose the Guarapuava region because it is home to one of the country’s few non-native species, the rainbow trout. There are lines of adept anglers who scour the country for them, always looking to beat their personal bests and discover new places. Due to this attraction, Guarapuava is a main point to capture this episode. We hope to have a great episode, because we were dazzled by the nature of the city,” said Thiago.

For the team’s cameraman and documentary maker, Cezar Roberto Oliveira, fishing in Guarapuava is both American and Canadian, methods appreciated by sports fishermen. For this reason, in addition to the beauty of the place, as he also commented, Cezar believes that the eighth episode of the series will have great proportions.

“It’s a heavenly place. We already know a little about the city and we passed by fantastic places. For people who are a little further up the country, geographically speaking, we’re not used to that type of environment, a cold place like this, but I think this place, as well as the content that we’re going capture, enrich our documentary, even because it’s a fish that people watch and catch a lot there. So we have good expectations,” said the cameraman.

After a brief visit to the Municipal Natural Park of Araucarias, the group went to the place chosen for the recording of the episode “Rainbow Trout”, the Aka Lodge, a tourist environment in Guarapuava, located in the district of Entre Rios, which has the necessary conditions to capture the images, including the São Gerônimo River.

The series also seeks to show the diversity that Brazil has to offer tourists who come from abroad to experience the country for sport fishing. Guarapuava entered the team’s script and appealed to everyone, not just for fishing, as documentary filmmaker Bruno Fernandes explains.

“We arrived here today in Guarapuava very cold, but the place is incredible. I even joked with people that here is a place where you can bring your wife to honor nature, which is the most beautiful and best thing of all, one can fish. The area here is very rich in rainbow trout and that also improves our image capture,” he said.

Fishing Factor has already been selected for the Marg Fest European Film Festival in its 6th edition, screened in Portugal throughout July 2023. In addition, the series was the first Brazilian production that tackles sport fishing, to be selected by the curators. of the 5th edition of the Marginal Art Festival (MAF). MAF emerged with the principle of taking art in its various forms into new environments, bringing artistic experimentation in new directions and places around the world.

The series, licensed by Amazon Prime International, is available in the United States, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Germany. The episode does not yet have an estimated air date.
