Starting this weekend, the men’s volleyball pre-Olympics had, today (01), the second round. In group C, the matches were quite unbalanced, since in each of them, one of the teams took the lead. In this sense, Canada, the Netherlands, Poland and Belgium achieved their victories over Argentina, Mexico, Bulgaria and China respectively.
Canada x Argentina
During the first match of the round, the Argentines even tried to get back into the match, but stopped on the opposing counterattacks. In the duel, the Canadian team won the first two sets with some difficulty. However, in the third set, the Argentines not only raised their level of competitiveness, but also won the stage, threatening to make life even more difficult for their opponents. However, in the fourth and final set, the Canadians stifled with high volume of play, culminating in a 3-1 victory (7-25; 25-22; 23-25-25-15). In addition to the victory, the team also shared top scorers, with Arthur Szwarc and Stephen Maar scoring 16 times each.
Netherlands x Mexico
In what was the shortest match of the round, the Mexicans didn’t even reach 20 points in any set. As you can imagine, 3 sets were enough for European victory to be declared, with a score of 3-0 (25-19; 25-19; 25-16) for the Dutch. With the glaring difference in points and the advantage in all the basic fundamentals of the sport, the top scorer of the match was therefore that of the winning team, with Nimir Abdel-Aziz scoring 20 points in the duel.
Poland x Bulgaria
The European clash was closer than the score suggests. Despite finishing 3-0 (26-24; 25-20; 25-21) to Poland, the Bulgarian team played point for point in all sets. So much so that, although the advantage in the final score was considerable, the number of points was quite similar, with the Poles scoring 76 times and the Bulgarians 66. Even though he was beaten, Sokolov was, once more, the highlight of the match, this time, with 20 points scored.
Belgium x China
With an audience 3 times larger than the average for the other matches in the round, the Chinese, who are playing at home, counted on the support of the supporters to achieve their first victory of the championship. However, the superiority of the Belgians was notable and resulted in a fairly quiet victory 3-1 (25-18; 22-25; 25-19; 25-17). Even though the match was tied at the end of the second set, the Europeans finished the match with all the statistics in their favor. Additionally, the artillery of the match attracted attention, as Sam Deroo and Ferre Reggers were almost responsible for a set each, scoring 25 and 24 points respectively.
