Last Tuesday, July 18, the new board of directors of the Alliance of Public Health Associations of the Americas – AASPA was elected. The administration will last two years and will be chaired by Ramón Anulfo López, representing the Dominican Society of Public Health. Abrasco President Rosana Onocko has been named Vice President and will also join the Board of Directors.

The list also includes: Paula de Orúe, of the Chilean Health Society (secretary); Vina Hulamm of APHA (Treasurer), Ian Cultbert of the Canadian Public Health Association (member) and Saul Orlando Peña of the Venezuelan Society of Public Health (member).

Rosana Onocko celebrates Abrasco’s appointment as president: “The fact that we were invited to this vice-presidential position is linked to Abrasco’s leadership in the region and the strength of Brazilian public health. This appointment makes us very happy, we will be able to join forces to strengthen public health in the region.

The president of Abrasco also emphasizes that AASPA expands the possibilities of coordination and exchanges between member countries: “Latin America is one of the most unequal regions on the planet and in this alliance we coexist with developed countries of America, such as the United States and Canada. The possibility of establishing partnerships and exchanges is very beneficial.
