After incidents in the Aston Martin pit during the Qatar GP, the FIA investigates the actions of Lance Stroll – Boletim do Paddock

Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll is under investigation by the FIA for possible breaches of rules, policies and procedures during the Qatar GP. Friday, during the qualifying session which would define the starting grid for the main race, the Canadian driver had a crisis with his physical trainer and the team’s equipment.

After being knocked out of Q1, the driver threw the steering wheel as he left the car and was even seen pushing coach Henry Howe in a fit of rage. The professional fulfilled his role as driver’s attendant and directed Stroll to the parc ferme procedures – where drivers must take part in the weigh-in.

Arriving at the park for the interviews, Stroll answered three questions in six words, being rude by giving the interview with swear words to a journalist from the official Formula 1 channel. Stroll’s attitude, combined with his poor results in the category, caused several debates among fans of the category.

This attitude was obviously noticed, but initially there was no indication that the matter would be investigated. However, the competition regulator has chosen to act – to at least investigate the situation. The Compliance Officer discusses with the driver the various incidents which indicate a violation of the rules, policies and procedures implemented by the FIA.

Supported by article 12.2.1.c of the FIA International Sporting Code, it mentions that it will be considered an offense if found guilty of “any fraudulent behavior or any act prejudicial to the interests of any competition or to the interests of motorsport in general.

During the 2018 Brazilian GP, Max Verstappen broke the rule by shoving Esteban Ocon in the FIA pits. The Dutch driver had to carry out two days of community service for the FIA for the infraction.

The Canadian driver could be required to perform some type of service for the FIA, as reparation for his actions in Qatar. However, this is something that is still up for discussion, as only some of Stroll’s rage was shown on camera.

Regarding the relationship with the physical trainer, Stroll said: “We are fine. He’s a companion. We go through frustrations together and we walk together, so it’s all good. I don’t watch social media. I’m driving the car this weekend,” said the Canadian.

“We’re in a rut and we’re not succeeding. The frustration is, I think, present throughout the group at the moment. I mean, we want to do better, we want to improve, but it’s just a struggle at the moment. I’m just struggling with the car and trying to control the balance. I just can’t get a performance out of him at the moment, which is just difficult and frustrating,” Stroll continued.
