Students of the English course of the Escola de Idiomas Sesc and Senac, of the Goiânia unit, had the opportunity, last Friday, October 6, to visit the embassies of Canada and Nigeria, in Brasilia. The 32 students were also at the Senac Downtown school restaurant, in the building of the National Confederation of Commerce, in the federal capital.

During the visit to the Canadian Embassy, the students were welcomed by Marcos Paulo, Senior Trade and Economic Policy Officer at the Embassy. There, they learned more about the country’s history as well as Canadian cultural characteristics.

During the visit to the Nigerian embassy, the delegation from the Sesc et Senac Language School was received by the country’s ambassador to Brazil, Muhammad Ahmed Makarfi. Besides putting English into practice, the students also had the opportunity to learn about Nigeria and the clothing of the people.

For student Gabriel Alves, from the Upper 1 English class, the experience was magical and special. “At the Canadian Embassy, we discovered Canadian universities, geography and history. At the Nigerian Embassy we learned about the culture and it was really, really, really impressive. I have to thank Sesc and Senac for giving us this moment,” he stressed.

According to the deputy director of the Language School, Beatriz Tavares, visits to embassies are part of the unit’s educational project. In May this year, the students visited the embassies of South Africa and India. The next visit is already planned for the first half of 2024.

“The embassy is the official representation of a government on the territory of another nation and is configured as a foreign territory within the national territory. This experience is an opportunity for students to know other countries in more depth , in addition to practicing English with the accent of each nation”, said Beatriz Tavares.

The cultural exchange was a partnership between the school and Fecomex Goiás, which is the foreign trade arm of the Goiás State Commercial Federation (Fecomércio-GO).
