In May, Canadian Courtney Monteith went viral on TikTok when she opened up about her experience with a tattoo artist who did a different sketch than she requested and still charged US$2,600 (R12,800 $). With the fallout, she received offers from several professionals to get a tattoo and accepted one. Now, he’s sharing his story online again – this time, with a happy ending.
In a previous attempt to get the tattoo he wanted – a fox surrounded by flowers – Monteith had problems with the design proposed by the professional he had hired. In the video about the case, she showed that the sketch was very different from what she requested. The tattoo artist, in turn, charged a higher amount to make changes and refused a refund for what she had already paid.
Monteith said Insider who didn’t expect to receive anything for free and just wanted to share their frustration with their friends. Before posting the video, she had 200 subscribers. Today, there are more than 40,000. “I didn’t think people would relate to my experience,” she said.
She says she received several offers from professionals interested in doing the tattoo the way she wanted. Finally, she decides to accept the proposal of Matt Vaught, a professional whose work she already admires. She traveled from Canada to the United States to receive treatment.
Monteith shared his trip and images of the tattoo done on social media. In the caption, he called the moment a “happy ending.” Since Thursday (1/6), the date of its publication, the video has been viewed nearly 400,000 times.
In a video posted on his profile, the professional said that getting a tattoo amid such repercussions brought added pressure as he did not want to disappoint.
“We made it!” Tears and laughter were shared, trust was restored, and the power of good prevailed over evil. At least that’s what I felt,” he said. Posted on Thursday (1/6), the tattoo artist’s video has already reached more than 900,000 views.
