Health professionals who work in emergency care units (UPA) in the Federal District reported more frequent attacks from patients. Footage recorded by witnesses shows cases recorded in recent weeks (see video above).

According to a survey by the DF Regional Nursing Council (Coren-DF), more than half (51%) of the DF nurses has already suffered some form of aggression. According to the council, the regions with the most occurrences are: Ceilândia, Taguatinga and Samambaia.

Patients say they are excited by the lack of care (learn more below).

Videos (watch the beginning of the report) show that security agents often need to intervene to prevent attacks from becoming even more dangerous.

• In one of the attacks, at the Ceilândia UPA, a woman and the nursing technician argued, until the woman pushed the professional and told him she was leaving. The security guard, on the phone, called for backup, but the patient got up and left;
• In another video, also recorded at the Ceilândia UPA, a woman argued with the medical professional, who said she had been assaulted. The woman denied the attack: “My sister had a panic attack. She was out of breath. I’m a nurse and I know. And I watched. You did nothing, nothing. You made fun of me” ;
• Another recording showed a man having to be prevented from accessing a server. He shouted, insulted and threw an object at the Upa employee.

“Professionals are abandoned. One of the situations that brought the most insecurity was the elimination of police posts within the units. We end up having countless absences of these professionals, due to depression, for various reasons who do not want to go to work,” explains Alberto César, vice president of Coren-DF.

Patients heard by Globo TV They say they are exhilarated because of the lack of service. This was the case of Vanessa Amorim, who physically fought with a doctor from UBS 1 in Riacho Fundo.

She said it was because she had been unable to get care for her eight-year-old son, who suffers from hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder. The mother said she needed a report required by the school.

“It was despair, it was hatred, everything was mixed. Because I already feel incapable. I can’t give my son something that’s his. […] This makes everyone nervous, because there is a huge shortage of doctors. I would apologize because she is a professional, I was at her workplace, but the suffering continues,” says Vanessa.
