“I was surprised by the 1st place in the Parasnowboard Banked Slalom European Cup“, declared André Barbieri before thanking his sponsors for their support and for his performance. On November 30, during a race with 14 participants organized in the Netherlands, the Brazilian, the only South American in the category, was the fastest.
André achieved the two best descents in the LL1 category, which brings together athletes with moderately reduced mobility at the knees or legs, absence of one leg above the knee or two below the knee. With a time of 0:34.67, Barbieri was more than two seconds faster than runner-up, American Derick Byrd with 0:36.83. Canadian Erik Raymond with a time of 0:37.29 finished third. André was the only athlete to complete both runs in less than 36 seconds. As a result, he earned 120 race points and 100 championship points.
Brazil also had another representative in the competition. José Lima finished ninth among eleven athletes in the UL category. This category covers athletes with moderately impaired mobility in the forearms, a high degree in one arm, or no limbs affecting the arms. The result gave José 18 race points and 29 in the championship.
