Monte Carlo (Monaco) – After Spaniards Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal announced that will not participate in the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, another heavyweight name followed the same path. Also via social networks, the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime indicated that he will be absent from the tournament this year due to a problem with his left knee and that he will be replaced by the American Mackenzie McDonald.
“Unfortunately I have to announce my withdrawal from the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 this year. It’s an event I look forward to every season, but I’ve been struggling with my left knee for a few weeks and have decided that the option the smartest thing was to take a break for a while.”
“I will be completely recovered for my next tournament, at the Masters 1000 in Madrid. I always thank everyone for their support and I hope to see them on the court as soon as possible,” added Aliassime, who is coming off an early defeat at the Masters 1000 in Miami, but still falls in the third round against Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo.
The Canadian has 12 wins and 7 losses in the current season. His best result was reaching the semi-finals of the ATP 250 in Doha, but he also managed to reach the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, in addition to reach the round of 16 at the Australian Open. His record in Monte-Carlo is not the best, with only one victory in four appearances.
