Foreigners sell hotel reservations in Bonfim due to a rodeo in Guyana

Programming includes a contest to choose the best-dressed cowboy and cowgirl, beer and watermelon racing competitions, and the traditional bullfighting tournament

The main hotels and inns in the Commune of Bonfim, on the border of Brazil and Guyana, are already full for next weekend. And the vast majority of guests are foreigners who come to enjoy Rupununi Rodeo.

One of the main events in Guyana is scheduled for Saturday (8) and Sunday (9), in Lethem, on the border of the neighboring country with Brazil. In general, the program includes contests to choose the best-dressed cowboy and cowgirl, beer races and watermelon-eating contests, and the traditional bullfighting tournament.

“It is estimated that around 8,000 people will attend the Rupununi Rodeo in Lethem. People from Georgetown and around the world, such as the United States, United Kingdom and Brazil,” explained the president of the Rupununi Livestock Producers Association (RLPA). , Rebecca Faria.

With daily rates ranging from R$170 to R$350, the 25 rooms and eight aparthotels at the hotel of businessman Robero Júnior, 58, were sought after not only by Guyanese, but also by Americans and Canadians. In addition, the authorities of the neighboring country also called to try to reserve rooms. “For the Lethem rodeo, our halls have already been full since January of this year,” he said.

At the guest house of businesswoman Maria Gilbertina, 59, the scenario is the same: the 23 suites, whose prices vary from R$ 100 to R$ 120, are already reserved. “The demand is greater from foreigners, because when they come, they rent. Every time there’s a rodeo in Guyana, it’s too good for us,” he says.
