Migrants found near Canadian border

US Border Patrol (CBP) officers assigned to the Grand Forks area intercepted a contraband attempt near Neche, North Dakota. According to reports, in the early morning hours of December 2, officers observed a suspicious vehicle parked near the Canadian border. Shortly after, a second vehicle on the Canadian side was seen dropping off several people.

These individuals entered the United States on foot and continued until they reached the parked vehicle.

Then, officers walked over to the vehicle and began a traffic stop. Upon approach, officers conducted an inspection of the driver and all occupants regarding their immigration status.

After a brief investigation, it was determined that the nine immigrants, including the driver of the vehicle, were illegally in the United States.

Officers arrested the nine people and transported them to the Pembina Border Patrol Station for processing and subsequent deportation.

“I am proud of the work the men and women of the Grand Forks area do every day to protect our borders,” said Patrol Chief Constable Anthony S. Good. “Thanks to the excellent work of our officers in the field and the collaborative efforts of our partners at the Department of Justice, we have been able to criminally charge these individuals in this case and achieve meaningful consequences for those who seek to engage in illicit activities. As a reminder, anyone who puts their life in the hands of a smuggler puts their life and that of their family in danger,” he added.

Two of the individuals are being prosecuted for smuggling foreigners and returning to the country after being deported. The remaining seven people face criminal charges for illegal entry.
