About two thousand tourists disembark tomorrow (20/01), at 8 a.m., at the transatlantic terminal in Cabo Frio, celebrating the resumption of the cruise season in the city, suspended two years ago due to the pandemic. The ship that opens the 2023 season is the English Aurora P&O, with passengers from the “Queen’s country”. In March, Voyager Of The Seas arrives on the 5th, with 675 Canadians and Americans for the most part. The landing is however confirmed a few hours before, depending on weather conditions. If they are unfavorable, ships may have their route changed.

The estimate of the Associação Brasileira de Cruzeiros Marítimos (CLIA Brasil) is that the tourist in this segment spends, on average, R$550 during their stay in the cities where they disembark, with food, drinks, gifts and visits, being a segment of great importance for trade.

“The return of transatlantic ships is very important for our economy, since tourists shop in our stores, take tours, hire guides… And they can also be encouraged to return to Cabo Frio at other times. , staying in the city,” he said. According to César Fernandes, director of maritime cruises at the Convention, the ships have registered the name of Cabo Frio in the tourist catalogs of several countries, making the destination known to a different international public. “The city gains in free publicity, an investment in image of a magnitude that no tourism secretariat could afford. They are excellent companies that take photos and information about Cabo Frio to an audience relevant to the destination,” he concludes.
