Canada is experiencing the worst wildfire season of the 21st century

The smoke reached the United States and even Norway

O Canada faces the biggest season of Forest fires of the 21st century. Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair announced that more than 47,000 square kilometers had burned so far in 2024. Additionally, he confirmed that 431 fires are raging across Canada. The town of Edson, Alberta had to evacuate 8,400 people because of the flames. “The fire is so out of control that some forestry crews have had to back off,” said Luc Mercier, chief executive of Yellowhead County, where Edson is located. “They are not able to fight this fire. The situation is similar in British Columbia, where thousands of people have fled their homes. Saturday 10, the Minister of Public Security of Quebec, François Bonnardel, said this Saturday morning that the situation in the center and north-west of the province remained difficult, with several cities being threatened. More than 5,000 officers have been sent from other countries to help fight the blazes and hundreds more are expected from countries including Chile, Costa Rica, Portugal and Spain. Smoke from the flames has already invaded the United States and reached Norway, crossing the Atlantic Ocean.
