Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll has expressed his dissatisfaction with the way Formula 1 stewards handled track limit penalties at the Qatar Grand Prix. The Canadian driver was penalized twice with five seconds added to his total race time, which ended up removing him from the points zone.

Before the race, we already knew that the limits of the track would be a point of attention. However, the situation worsened on Saturday when the limit definitions at turns 12 to 14 of the Lusail International Circuit were changed. This change is due to concerns about the behavior of the Pirelli tires when passing over “pyramid” shaped curbs. As a result, this section of track was narrowed to prevent drivers from using the curbs, but despite this, several drivers were penalized during the Sprint and Grand Prix.

Stroll, who was already facing extreme heat conditions during the race, expressed his frustration with the stewards’ decisions. He mentioned that during the last 20 laps he felt like he was about to pass out. Other drivers, like Williams’ Logan Sargeant, also faced health issues, leading Sargeant to withdraw from racing.

The Aston Martin driver was categorical in his statements: “It is absurd to apply such penalties. They don’t understand the reality of current Formula 1. We don’t gain any advantage by exceeding the track limits by a few millimeters, especially given the difficult conditions we face in the car. » Stroll concluded by expressing his disappointment with the result, after feeling that he had had a good race.
