Gauff and Pegula reach their third final together of the year

Gauff and Pegula have five titles together, including three WTA 1000 titles

Madrid, Spain) – Seeded doubles at the WTA 1000 in Madrid, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula have secured a place in the final of the clay-court tournament in the Spanish capital. The North Americans beat Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk and Romanian Elena Ruse on Friday by 7/5 and 7/6 (7-5).

Gauff and Pegula have five titles playing together, including three WTA 1000s. They had already won tournaments of this level in Doha and Toronto last year and were also champions in Miami this season. At 29, Pegula has seven professional doubles titles on the tour, while former doubles No. 1 Coco Gauff has eight titles at 19.

In the first set of the semi-final, Gauff and Pegula had to show their reaction power. They were leading 5/2, but won five straight games at the end of the set. In the second part, there were two breaks for each side. The North American duo even had match point, as they won by 6/5, but only defined the dispute at the tie-break.

The second semi-final takes place at the end of this Friday’s round, with the Brazilian participation of Beatriz Haddad Maia. The 26-year-old from São Paulo joins former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka for the duel against two left-handers, Canadian Leylah Fernandez and North American Taylor Townsend.
