Antalya (Türkiye) – In the duo’s third consecutive final, Igor Gimenez and Élio Lago won their second title together. this Sunday they lifted the ITF U15 Cup on the clay courts of Antalya, beating Russians Svyatoslav Gulin and Ilya Rudiukov in three sets, with partials of 6/4, 6/7 (5-7) and 10 -5.
Gimenez won her fourth doubles title on the ITF Tour, her third this season. In addition to winning with Lago na two weeks ago, he won two tournaments in partnership with Nicolas Zanellato, the first last year in Ecuador and the second already in Turkey in March.
The cup lifted by Lago is the second of his career. Born in Fortaleza, the 25-year-old came through college tennis in the United States, defended Brazil on the youth circuit and in his early years as a professional, but naturalized as an Italian.
The Brazilian and the Italian even opened 4/1, allowing the rivals to recover, who equalized at 4/4, but recorded another break in the tenth and final game to close the set. The Russians had a break advantage twice in the second half, but only closed it in the tie-break.
