Brazil qualified four athletes for the quarterfinals of the Pan American Table Tennis Championships this Tuesday (12), in Havana, Cuba. The sisters Bruna and Giulia Takahashi advanced with good matches and among men, Hugo Calderano and Guilherme Teodoro they moved forward.
Giulia Takahashi did not pay attention to the local athlete Estela Crespo and scored 4-0, shares of 11/8, 11/9, 11/4 and 11/6. She will face American Amy Wang in the quarter-finals. Hugo also overtook the car, beating the American Jishan Liang, with double 11/6, 11/7 and 11/8 and will face the Paraguayan Marcelo Aguirre.
Bruna came out behind Rachel Sung (USA), who had a score of 11-9 in the first match, and who tied it at 13-11 shortly after. In the third match, she scored 11 to 1, then 12 to 10 and closed the match with 11 to 5. Her opponent in the next phase will be the Canadian Mo Zhang.
One of the youngest athletes of the delegation, Guilherme Teodoro eliminated the Mexican Marcos Madrid by winning 4-1, partials of 15/13, 11/9, 4/11, 11/5 and 11/3. His next opponent will be the Argentinian Santiago Lorenzo.
Bruna Alexandre was eliminated after losing 4-0 to the American Lily Zhang, partials of 1/11, 3/11, 4/11 and 7/11. Another eliminated was Vitor Ishiy, beaten by the Chilean Nicolas Burgos by a score of 4 to 2, partials of 11/7, 9/11, 11/8, 9/11 and doubles 10/12. Eric Jouti lost to Canadian Eugene Wang 4-2, shares 3/11, 11/7, 11/5, 7/11, 11/5 and 12/10.
Bruna and Vitor Ishiy advance to the mixed doubles final
Bruna Takahashi and Vitor Ishiy qualified for the mixed doubles final after beating Cubans Daniela Fonseca and Jorge Campos 3-0, 11/5, 11/4 and 11/7. The opponents in the final will be the Chileans Nicolas Burgos and Paulina Vela.
