After leaving the RBS group, Marcel Hartmann takes a position at the UN – Coletiva.net

After more than six years of working as a reporter for Radio Gacha and for Zero Hora, the journalist Marcel Hartmann left the RBS Group to take up a position at the United Nations (UN). Based in Canada, he joined Unaids, an office that offers solutions to fight AIDS. In touch with the report Coletiva.netthe professional told about the new moment.

The opportunity to join the Organization presented itself after applying for the position in question, motivated by the desire to pursue an international career. The desire was born while she was living in Canada, in the first semester of this year, to undertake a work-study master’s degree at Laval University, in Quebec, in partnership with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Ufrgs ). “After finishing my studies, I lived in Montreal for a month and fell in love with the city, I felt like I had to drop everything and go there. I applied for a second work-study master’s degree, this time at the University of Quebec in Montreal,” he explained.

With the visa in hand and acceptance from the educational establishment, Marcel discovered, thanks to a friend, the position advertised on the UNAIDS website. “There was a call for the annual paid internship program in Geneva. As I was studying for a master’s degree in communications at Ufrgs and was going to study in Montreal, I applied. The vacant position fortunately allows me to work remotely. In other words, life has worked out very beautifully,” he celebrated.

The new role, however, lies outside journalism, although the journalist guarantees that to carry out his work he will use much of the experience acquired as a reporter. “I will produce political, economic, cultural, historical and public health analysis reports on the countries where UNAIDS is present for the organization’s internal consumption,” he said. To do this, he will need to use his skills in data and information collection, in addition to conducting interviews with UN members and developing communication strategies to promote an office course platform.

Farewell

Still looking back, Marcel described his time at Grupo RBS as “simply wonderful”. It is in the company that the professional grew, developed and practiced the “journalism in which I believe”. “I started as a general and political reporter, then migrated to health, science, education, human rights and environment. I covered the pandemic, fought disinformation, supervised governments and produced dozens of special reports,” he recalls.

It was also within the company that he was able to specialize in working with data, in addition to participating in courses to learn how to use statistical analysis tools. He also had the opportunity to specialize in Science Communication, from where he acquired “the necessary expertise to enter UNAIDS”. “I leave the RBS Group with immense gratitude, a feeling of accomplishment and happy with the friends I have made throughout my journey,” he emphasized.

Marcel had in mind that he would only leave Porto Alegre, the city he loves, and the RBS group if he went to live abroad. He leaves the Capital with a feeling of gratitude for everything he has experienced. From now on, the expectations of the moment “are the best”. “I have new requirements and I am being asked for new skills. This is the first time I have held a trilingual position – with requirements in Spanish, French and English – and I am very clear about the role and responsibility of UNAIDS. I will put my head down, study and work to earn my place,” he said.
