Novak Djokovic begins his quest for a 23rd Slam with a victory at Roland Garros

Serbian Novak Djokovic launched the quest for the 23rd Grand Slam title with victory at Roland Garros on Monday (28).

Djokovic, seeded number 3, faced American Aleksandar Kovacevic and won 3-0, partial 6-3 6-2 and 7-6 with 149 minutes to go. In the next round, he will face the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics.

The first top 10 fell on Monday. Canadian Felix Aliassime lost to Italian Fabio Fognini 3-0, 6-4 6-4 6-3 partials.

The rest of the top 10 moved on. Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (1) made it 3-0 against Italian Flavio Cobolli (6-0 6-2 and 7-5 and Italian Jannik Sinner (8) beat Frenchman Alexandre Muller also 3-0 (6-1 6-4 and 6-1).

On the women’s side, the Czech Petra Kvitova, seeded 10, was beaten by the Italian Elisabetta Cocchiaretto by 2-0, partials of 6-3 and 6-4. Cochiaretto will face the Swiss Simona Waltert.

France’s Caroline Garcia (5) made it 2-1 to China’s Wang Xiyu (7-6, 4-6 and 6-4).

Head of touch 14, Bia Haddad also advanced by beating the German Tatjana Maria.

Matos and Stefani meet opponents in mixed doubles

Brazilians Rafael Matos and Luísa Stefani met the opponents of the Roland Garros mixed doubles tournament on Monday.

Winners this year at the Australian Open, Matos and Stefani will face the French Diany Parry and Harold Mayot
