Novak Djokovic delighted to overcome ‘big fight’ with Quentin Halys in Adelaide

Novak Djokovic cruised to victory over Quentin Halys, beating the 64th-ranked Frenchman 7-6(3) 7-6(5) in their Round of 16 clash at Adelaide International 1.

The Serbian world number five got off to a slow start to win the first set on a tiebreaker and found themselves trailing 5–3 again in the second.

However, the 21-time Grand Slam champion kept his cool, shattering love and ultimately paving the way to victory.

Djokovic told atptour.com he was happy to take on Halys’ challenge.

“It was a great performance from my opponent today and I want to congratulate him on a great fight.

“He played like a Top 10 opponent. He was serving a lot, hitting his runs and on a fast pitch like this it’s hard to break, so two two breaks is a realistic score in today’s game I am happy to take up the challenge.

The victory marks a thrilling quarter-final clash with 18th-ranked Canadian Denis Shapovalov, who beat Roman Safiullin 6-4, 6-3.

Meanwhile, American Sebastian Korda beat Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 6-4.
