a court of Moscow fined video streaming service Ticsocial network Pinterest, vacation rental company Airbnb and logistics company United Parcel Service (UPS) for refusing to store the personal data of Russian citizens in the country, the court heard on Tuesday.
Russian communications regulator Roskomnadzor opened administrative proceedings in late May against Twitch, Pinterest, Airbnb, UPS and two other foreign companies accused of violating personal data laws.
The Moscow court press service said Twitch was found guilty by the Tagansky District Court and fined 2 million rubles ($37,700). Pinterest and Airbnb were also fined 2 million rubles, media reported, and UPS was fined 1 million rubles.
Twitch, Pinterest, Airbnb and UPS did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
For first offenses, companies can be fined 1 million to 6 million rubles, said Roskomnadzor, who has also filed lawsuits against Apple and Likeme.
Russia fined Google Alphabet 15 million rubles earlier this month for what it said was a repeated violation of the country’s data storage laws, after it fined 3 million rubles Last year.
Separately, the court said it fined Canadian platform Wattpad 1 million rubles for failing to remove content Russia deems illegal.
Wattpad did not immediately comment.
