The body of the Canadian tourist who fell in the Iguazu Falls has been identified as that of 58-year-old Sean Saraq. The confirmation was published on Sunday (23), by the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) of Foz do Iguaçu.
The incident was recorded on the Argentinian side of the falls, in the town of Puerto Iguazú, around 11 a.m. on the 17th.
According to the IML, the papilloscopic examination made it possible to identify the body of the victim thanks to fingerprints. The autopsy indicated that the cause of death was drowning.
Argentine police have not revealed what could have caused Saraq’s fall.
According to witness statements to the police, collected so far, the tourist climbed the parapet of the walkway and fell. Then he disappeared.
How did the incident happen
Everything happened, according to the police, at the height of the Mirante do Salto Bosetti – one of the falls of the Iguazu Falls on the Argentinian side.
On Tuesday (18), firefighters from Foz do Iguaçu, in western Paraná, located the body of a man in the Iguaçu River, near the Tancredo Neves bridge, on the border with Argentina.
In a statement, the Parque Nacional do Iguazú said the case was under police investigation and that “out of respect for those involved in the event and in order not to interfere with the investigations, no statements will be done for the time being”.
Who is Sean Saraq?
In one of his social networks, the Canadian showed his passion for the Iguaçu Falls with photos of the falls on a profile cover.
In the description, it says he was self-employed.
Besides being enchanted by nature, the Canadian showed his love for philosophical readings and described in his profile that he hoped to one day live in Argentina.
“I hope to one day live in the ‘Paris of South America’, Buenos Aires,” he described.
