The cultural extension project of Arrebol, of the theater course of the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS), produces another musical spectacle. This time the edit is of Mamma Mia, a world famous musical, based on the songs of Swedish pop group ABBA.
The show will be presented in three sessions, on June 28, 29 and 30, at 8 p.m. at the Glauce Rocha Theater, in Campo Grande. Tickets are on sale now on the website https://ingressos.spartaproducoes.com.br/comprar-ingresso. Buying through June 25, anyone can pay half the entry in any sector.
According to Professor Fernandes Ferreira de Souza, coordinator of Arrebol Cultural and director of the show, the editing process took a month, but everything had to be stopped for two years because of the pandemic. “The editing of the musical Mamma Mia had been in the plans since 2020, but it took until the pandemic passed to start production in October 2021, remotely. We launched the announcement of the selection of singers/actors and dancers on Social Media and interested people sent us videos”, explains Professor Fernandes.
Some cast members came from previous productions such as “Godspell, the musical”, “Soy latinoamericano”, “Aída” and “Grease”, but still without a protagonist, the production of the musical ended up discovering, on the networks social, the profile of singer Evelyn Lechuga, invited to take up the challenge of bringing Donna Sheridan to life. “I feel honored by the invitation of the director Fernandes Ferreira, it is my first experience on stage and dance, my artistic trajectory concerns music, so when I discovered that the musical is based on the songs of ABBA , I became more excited. The lyrics of the songs talk about real situations and feelings that we all go through. I identify with Donna, my character, she makes me reflect on the choices made and their consequences and taught me to saving lightness and freedom to live,” says protagonist Evelyn Lechuga.
In the musical Mamma Mia, ABBA’s songs are part of the official version, produced by Moeller and Botelho. The cast is made up of 34 people, who have a vocal coach (Ariel Ribeiro) and two choreographers (Esther Queiroz and Bruno Pissurno). The lighting is by Espedito Montebranco, directed by Professor Fernandes Ferreira. “The musical is an old passion, even before seeing the musical on Broadway in 2018, I had always had a passion for ABBA music. I always knew that I shared that passion with a lot of people, so I knew that I had in my hands the possibility of realizing the dreams of many people”, comments Professor Fernandes.
