Xi Jinping

had a demanding conversation with Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada
🇧🇷 The dialogue took place during G20 Summit
which takes place in Bali, Indonesia.

The two leaders previously held a private bilateral meeting, however, the information exchanged during the official meeting was quickly leaked to the Canadian press.

As a result, Xi approached the Canadian leader to express his dissatisfaction with the way he conducted the rest of the meeting.

“Everything we said was leaked (to the press). It’s not appropriate, it’s not how we operate. If you’re being honest, we should communicate with mutual respect,” said the Chinese leader.

“We believe in free, open and frank dialogue and that is what we will continue to have. We will continue to seek to work together constructively, but there will be things we will not agree on,” replied Trudeau.

He was then interrupted by Xi, who said “let’s create the conditions first”. The two shook hands and ended their brief conversation.
