This friendly match marks the official debut of coach Arthur Elias, former coach of Corinthians, in charge of the Brazilian women’s team. The first training session with a ball between the players and the new coach took place on September 19, at Granja Comary, in Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro.

In addition, this match marks the start of a new phase for the team, after the dismissal of Swede Pia Sundhage and after her elimination in the group stage of the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Canada is a well-known opponent of Brazilians.

The Canadians eliminated Brazil in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, when they won an unprecedented gold medal. Furthermore, coach Fernando Elias said that the opponent is an experienced team, which is also looking to get back on its feet after the World Cup.

– A great team, which will test our offensive and defensive side, we will have to be very careful with set pieces and with Canada’s counterattack – said the coach.

One of Arthur Elias’ challenges is to prepare the team to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The coach stressed that he always seeks victory and wants that to be the mindset of the players.
