I Half Marathon successfully celebrates UFV anniversary
There was an hour left before departure and rain fell on the town of Viçosa. Sunday (27) at 8 a.m., it lightened up so as not to spoil the celebration of the 1st UFV Half Marathon. During the four hours of the event, the Viçosa campus became the scene of a great sporting and socializing party between young and old runners seeking to surpass their own limits. Experienced athletes and medal collectors from Brazil and around the world shared the same track with those running for the first time. If for some, the goal was to reach the finish line as quickly as possible, for the majority, the important thing was to complete the 5, 10 or 21 kilometers and celebrate.
Among the more than 900 registered, 777 completed the course. There were corridors from seven states and more than 60 municipalities in Minas Gerais. Some came from far away, like São Paulo, Mato Grosso and Goiás, and there were still many people from the Viçosa region who were enthusiastic and will definitely come back next year..Participants also included many former students who took advantage of the event to miss UFV and have already included the half marathon in their annual sports calendar.
Among the runners, delighted with their arrival, the compliments were numerous: impeccable organization, well-planned route, difficulties overcome, logistical support, hydration, help and a change of scenery. Even the most experienced runners have praised what already seems to be a distinctive feature of the Viçosa campus: running on its trails, among historic buildings, is a sport and a pleasure. Good for the city, which will also benefit from a tourism incentive for local businesses during this event.
According to the organizers, the first edition of the Half Marathon was a success and will be part of the official calendar to celebrate the University’s anniversary.
