In its debut under coach Arthur Elias, Brazil beats Canada

Coach Arthur Elias’ debut for the Brazilian women’s team was a victory. This Saturday afternoon (28), Canarinho’s team scored 1-0 in Canada at the Stade de Montréal. Debinha scored, in stoppage time, the only goal of the match which marked the return of the duo Cristiane and Marta as starters.

The new commander’s main objective is to prepare Canarinho’s team to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics in ten months. For the hosts, this friendly match was the first of five farewell matches for striker Christine Sinclair of the Canadian national team. In fact, she came on midway through the second half.

The game

As expected, coach Arthur Elias set up Brazil with a line of three defenders. News came of Lauren replacing Tainara in defense. The team dominated the actions and made a good move in front, coming close to the goal twice. First, when Tamires broke through into the small area, in the 28th minute, after a cross from Adriana. Then, on a beautiful shot from Adriana in the 31st, which forced goalkeeper Sheridan to make a good save in the corner.

However, the Brazilians left a lot of space and saw the Canadians scare each other. Particularly in the last minutes with defender Vanessa Gilles, who scored with a header, in the 27th, then with a cross shot from Julia Grosso, in the 41st, and finally with a shot past Adriana Leon, free in the area.

The match became even more exciting after the break. The Brazilians played inside the opposing field, with a high pace of play and a good exchange of passes. Debinha and Ary had good chances. In the end, defender Gilles almost scored during the Canadians’ only finish in the second half.
