Mother moved as her son makes World Cup debut

A video of an excited mother jumping for joy at her son’s World Cup debut in Qatar is going viral on social media.

Without a doubt, parents are the first and constant supporters of their children’s small accomplishments, and Dee Adekugbe is no different.

The clip went viral when it was first shared by an international sports agency on social media. The clip shows Dee jumping for joy when her son Sam, 27, was called out of the dugout to be part of the Canadian squad for their match against Belgium.

The happy mum couldn’t control her emotions and can be heard saying, “My son is in the World Cup. Thank you Jesus. Hallelujah.”

The video has been showered with love from a number of social users, many of whom joined in the mum’s celebrations via the comments section.

One user wrote, “God bless you Dee for raising an amazing son Sam, having this special time and sharing this special time with all of us.”

“What a special moment,” wrote another. One of the comments on the post read: “Loved it. Canada deserved better too. Very impressed with their display.

Despite a good game, Canada lost 1-0, with a goal by Michy Batshuayi in the 44th minute. Sam Adekugbe entered the pitch in the 74th minute of the game. The Canadians return to the field next Sunday, to try to rehabilitate against Croatia, at 1:00 p.m. (Brasilia time).
