The dollar was the currency most used by Brazilians during the July holidays

July usually warms up tourism with the arrival of the end of year celebrations. Brazilians are used to taking advantage of the break to take their suitcases out of the closet and go to new destinations, including abroad. A survey carried out by Passfolio, and sent first-hand to E-Investidor, identified the main currencies used in the broker’s international debit card during the period and revealed that travel to the northern hemisphere prevailed.

O dollar accounted for 72.23% of total user spend on the platform. In second place comes the euro with 10.35% of total purchases between July 1 and July 31. Only 5.86% of purchases were made in reais, 2.84% in pounds sterling and 1.95% in Canadian dollars.

For David Gobaud, founder and CEO of Passfolio, the dollar’s leadership over the period demonstrates a strong preference of Brazilians for North American cities. A recent survey conducted by Decolar shows that Miami, Orlando and New York, all in United Stateswere the most popular destinations for Brazilians for their July holidays.

“The strong use of the US dollar on the Passfolio card shows that Brazilians are increasingly looking for more convenient and advantageous exchange options. And one of the factors is certainly to avoid the IOF of the traditional credit card”, specifies Gobaud.
