Bacurau Wins Best Foreign Film Award in Toronto, Canada

The Brazilian film had a lot of success outside of Brazil and is eligible to compete for the 2021 awards.

Bacurau, a film eligible for the 2021 awards (since its US premiere in 2020), and recently nominated for Best International Film at the Independent Spirit Awards, has just won another award in Brazil: Best Foreign Film by Toronto Film Critics AssociationIn Canada.

Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles, it competed with Denmark’s Another Round and Russia’s Uma Mulher Alta, which were the other two most critically-voted foreign films in Toronto, sort of rounding out the podium. .

The film, which is on Barack Obama’s list of favorite films, had previously won the same category at the New York Critics’ Association awards.

nightjar was released in 2019 in Brazilian cinemas, but it was not until 2020 that it reached North American and British cinemas, achieving great success with international critics. He was also nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards, a kind of Oscar for independent cinema, and has a chance to appear at the BAFTAs and even at the 2021 Oscar. Let’s hope!
