Current world champions and already qualified for the Paris 2024 Games, the Brazilian women’s sitting volleyball team beat Canada again, in a repeat of the modality’s World Cup final last November, when the country won the unprecedented title. This Friday (7), the Brazilians dominated from start to finish the International Sitting Volleyball Challenge, organized at the Paralympic Training Center (CTP), in São Paulo. Brazil, world number 2 _ behind only the United States _ triumphed by 3 sets to 0 (partials of 25/22, 29/27 and 25/22).

“We are getting a bit tense playing in our country. But we slowly softened our game and managed to win. We have to minimize mistakes so that we don’t make any in the next competitions. Also, these friendlies were important to give opportunities for other girls to play and for the coach (Fernando Guimarães) to train other teams with us”, analyzed player Janaína Petit, in a statement to the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), shortly after the game.

Pan American Zonal Championship

The friendly duel between Brazil and Canada is part of the preparation of the two teams for the biggest competition of the modality in the Americas: the Pan-American Zonal Championship, which distributes places for the Paris Games. The tournament will take place from May 9 to 13, in the city of Edmonton (Canada).

Currently ranked third in the world rankings, the Canadian team is still looking to qualify for the Paralympic Games. The Brazilians, meanwhile, secured their place at Paris 2024 by winning the world title last year in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), with a 3-1 victory over the Canadians.

Retrospection

The friendly match on Friday (7th) was the third between the two teams since Sunday (2nd), when the teams started training together at the CTP. During the period, there were two training matches: Thursday (6), Brazil defeated Canada by 3 sets to 1. In the first match, Wednesday (5), it was the Canadians who won by 3 sets to 2.
