The UFV group presents a diagnosis for municipal management and basic health units of Viçosa

The Work Education for Health Program (PET Saúde-UFV) prepared a situational diagnosis of primary care in six basic health units (UBS) of Viçosa – Barrinha, Bom Jesus, Cachoeirinha, Centro, Nova Viçosa and Sylvester. The result was presented this month to UBS Nova Viçosa and officials of the Municipal Health Service.

The presentation took place in the presence of the Municipal Secretary of Health, Rainério Rodrigues Fontes, the head of health networks, Dévola Pilar de Gouveia Almeida, and the coordinator of primary health care and integrative and complementary practices, Gláucia Cristina Machado.

The work is the result of the last edition of the Program of Education through Work for Health (PET Saúde-UFV), which had as its thematic axes Management It is Health assistance. Launched in September 2002, it had five tutoring groups, made up of undergraduate students from physical education, nursing, medicine and nutrition courses, teachers, as tutors, and several professionals from the municipal network of health, as preceptors.

The initiative aimed to strengthen the teaching-service-community integration process in an articulated manner between the unified health system and the university, in addition to promoting the preparation of future health professionals for collaborative action.

One of these tutoring groups decided to develop actions oriented towards the health work process with the development of a situational diagnosis at UBS Viçosa, within the framework of a work that encompassed users, staff and management. The activities of preparation, application of questionnaires and presentation of the data obtained were carried out by the students, under the supervision of preceptors and tutors.

Professors Miguel Araujo Carneiro Júnior, from the Department of Physical Education, and Lindaura Rodrigues Paz, from the Department of Medicine and Nursing, acted as tutors for this PET-Saúde group. According to Miguel, the initiative “allowed important interaction between different courses in the field of health, allowing students direct contact with users, teams and municipal management, in addition to verifying the reality of the UBS, highlighting its potential and challenges.
