FTX’s Sam Bankman-Fried pleads not guilty to fraud allegations

Sam “SBF” Bankman-Fried, former CEO and co-founder of cryptocurrency exchange FTX, has pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud and money laundering set out in an indictment updated by the prosecutors, according to a report.

The final legal proceeding against SBF was conducted by Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn. The former FTX CEO has been charged with seven counts of fraud and money laundering, as well as an additional campaign finance charge. Bankman-Fried pleaded not guilty to all charges.

SBF’s attorney also raised concerns about his medical needs, sharing that SBF takes Adderall and follows a vegan diet, but hasn’t received his medication for the past 11 days. During the legal proceedings, SBF’s lawyers also requested a vegan diet for their client.

The attorney also raised Sixth Amendment concerns, saying his client cannot prepare for trial because he has been in custody since August 11. The lawyer further pointed out that they were only offered “fiction as solutions”.

Bankman-Fried appeared in court for the Southern District of New York on August 22, facing charges of misusing client funds for personal gain and political donations. Fraud and money laundering charges date from December; however, prosecutors added additional campaign finance charges earlier this month.

The last procedure of the FTX process took place after the Bankman-Fried bail revokedand SBF left the New York courtroom in handcuffs.

Earlier in the week, Bankman-Fried asked the court to grant him permission to spend five working days out of detention work with your legal team on your behalf. However, a federal judge handling SBF’s criminal case issued an order allowing him to meet with his legal team outside of the jail for approximately seven hours.
