João Baião, Nobel, Ruy de Carvalho, Virgílio Castelo, Márcia and Dan Livingstone are part of the Cineteatro Messias program in 2024

Between January and June next year, the Cineteatro Messias will continue to celebrate culture in all its diversity. Big names in music, theatre, comedy and dance will pass through its stage, such as João Baião, Luís Franco-Bastos, Noble, Ruy de Carvalho, Luís Osório, Teresa Guilherme, Virgílio Castelo, Teresa Salgueiro, Marcia and Dan Livingstone.

“The commitment to Culture, here at Cineteatro and, in general, in the Municipality, is one of the structuring axes of our program. It is a good investment and an added value for the municipality. And it is with great satisfaction that we hear mention of Mealhada, outside the municipality, as an important cultural dynamitor, whether with artists of national stature – and even international as is the case of the Dan Livingston tour – or with the openness to our communities”, underlined António Jorge Franco, Mayor of Mealhada, during the press conference to present the program for the first semester, held this morning at the Cineteatro Messias.

This semester follows the programmatic line of last year: diversity of shows – from singing to music, from dancing to theater, from comedy to musicals for children or stand-up -, with multiple registers capable of pleasing to different audiences. “We are very happy to say that the Cineteatro Messias has already acquired regional centrality. It is a house of culture, with an enormous diversity of proposals, from the most commercial to the most experimental, sought after by great national artists and which hosts also the productions of our communities”, underlined Gil Ferreira, Councilor for Culture.

Orquestra Clássica do Centro and João Baião open the year

The year opens, as usual, with a New Year’s concert. On January 8, an ensemble from the Orquestra Clássica do Centro, accompanied by the beautiful voice of soprano Marina Pacheco, promises a show with a and a program similar to the traditional New Year’s concert of the Vienna Philharmonic. Then, on the 13th and 14th of the same month, João Baião takes the stage of the Cineteatro Messias to present, in the company of a cast of actors appreciated by the general public, three sessions of the musical “Monólogos da Vacina”, already sold out. .

In January, the public will also have, on the 20th, the play “A Aia”, by the Caixa de Palco theater company, adapted from the tale by Eça de Queirós, and, on the 28th, a dance performance by Vanessa Cunha, which will have, in the first part, the participation of the two dance schools of the county – Academia de Dança do Hóquei Clube da Mealhada and Dance With Heart. Caixa de Palco returns to the Cineteatro Messias, on February 3, with the play “O Príncipe Nabo”, created from the work of Ilse Losa, and, on March 26, integrates, with the theater companies of the Aguarela municipality de Memórias, Grupo Scenico de Santa Cristina and Oficina de Teatro do Cértima, the show celebrating World Theater Day “A legend never comes alone”.

Theater with Ruy de Carvalho, Virgílio Castelo and Teresa Guilherme

One of the big names in the theatrical field is Ruy de Carvalho, who takes the stage on March 18. After integrating the play “A Ratoeira”, which was on stage at Cineteatro Messias in February this year with a sold-out hall, the man considered the greatest figure in theater in Portugal will open his heart and tell untold stories of his long and inspiring career. On the same solo disc, Teresa Guilherme will present a show, on April 29, on the fascinating world of women, after the tremendous success of “Os Monólogos da Vagina”, which also passed through this room, in 2021, with three full sessions . Also on April 15, the Cineteatro Messias hosts “Secret Files”, by Luís Osório, considered the most surprising cultural proposal of recent years. In the show conceived from the book of the same name, which he wrote a year ago, the journalist and writer will summon on stage the ghosts and memories of characters who have marked the recent history of Portugal and trigger in the public reasons to laugh and cry, to be moved and outraged. On May 13, actor, author and director Virgílio Castelo, alongside journalist and writer Maria Elisa Domingues, will bring the play “Love Letters” to life, which depicts a love story.

Music with Márcia, Teresa Salgueiro, Noble and Dan Livingstone

In music, on February 4 there will be a tribute show to one of the most iconic bands of all time – Dire Straits – where the songs that Mark Knopfler’s voice and guitar have made unforgettable will be recreated. Then, on the 25th, it was Noble, one of the country’s most prominent artists, as evidenced by the successes with “Honey”, which reached No. 1 on the charts of the most played songs on the radio, or “Beautiful” . Next, it’s the turn of international artist Dan Livingstone, a renowned Canadian guitarist, who will transport the audience on a journey through time, passing through ragtime, swing, blues and more traditional folk. In the first part of his concert, PAMA, resident musician in Mealhada, will perform.

On April 1, Teresa Salgueiro, former singer of Madredeus and one of the most prestigious voices in Portuguese music, will take the stage of the Cineteatro Messias for a concert that will reflect the influence of the composers and performers who marked the birth of democracy in Portugal. On May 20, Márcia, a singer already considered one of the greatest talents in Portuguese-language composition, will offer the public a moving, intimate and at the same time hard-hitting concert, where she will present her new album “Picos e Vales” .

Children’s musicals and comedy shows

The program for the first half of 2023 also promises fun for all ages. On February 11, there is stand-up, with Luís Franco-Bastos. In “Diogo”, report and deconstruction of experiences, memories and intimate and family issues, the comedian promises to turn the show around as he has never done.

A month later, entertainment will be guaranteed for the youngest with the children’s musical “The Three Little Pigs”, a story not only of family and love, but also of learning. On May 28, the week of the celebration of World Children’s Day, there will be a new show for children with “Pinocchio – A musical adventure”, in which, in addition to the nose of this character, many smiles, laughs and sighs will grow.

“The program presented here – with 20 major shows until the end of May – reflects the cultural policy carried out for a year and which we wish to perpetuate in 2024: multiplicity of artistic registers, some more mainstream, with one and two sold out. audiences, others for more restricted audiences, but very important to ensure cultural heterogeneity”, summed up Gil Ferreira, Cultural Advisor, emphasizing the openness to the community and to local artistic associations.
