Brazilian Vinicius Howe, who turned 17 two days ago, won the men’s XCO Junior (17-18) race at Pan American Mountain Bike this Saturday 29. The race opened the day of competition in Congonhas, MG . It was a quiet contest for Howe, who brought the hometown athlete 30 seconds clear of second place Colombian Antonio Ortiz. Howe secured first place in 1:18:23, ahead of Ortiz in 1:18:54. Completing the podium, the Venezuelan Angel Eduardo Cerrada. which arrived with 1h19’30”. Brazil also conquered the positions, 7, 12, 15, 18, 19, 20 and 21.
Among the women, it was the Canadian Marin Lowe who took the best place on the top step of the podium, at 57’31”. The Chilean Amalia Fernandez arrived next, at 57’43”. Closing out the podium, Cinthia Guadalupe Gonzales of Mexico came in 1h00’01”. Carolina Ferreira, Samara de Freitas, Luisa Sartori Garcia and Isabelly Chaves de Oliveira were the other representatives from Brazil, finishing 13th, 14th, 15th and 17th respectively. among the 18 starters in turn.
For the men, it was six rounds. For women, five. In all, 53 male athletes started and four did not finish the match. Only one woman did not leave. The XCO track has 5234 meters, divided into 2077m flat, 1679m uphill and 1478m downhill, with a drop of 53.4m. There are three team support points scattered along the course.
