Out-of-control fire puts Canada and the United States on alert

A California wildfire is out of control and threatening a unique wild ecosystem in the United States. Further north, flames crossed the border from Washington into Canada.

California firefighters admit fire is out of control in California’s Mojave National Preserve. Winds are constantly changing direction, challenging efforts to fight the flames.

Thousands of hectares have already burned in the vast wildlife reserve, unique in its characteristics of the Mojave Desert.

Southerly winds are pushing the flames north, so the fire has now crossed the California border into the state of Nevada.

Further north, an uncontrollable forest fire crossed the border from the American state of Washington to Canada, which recorded the fourth death of a firefighter this Sunday.

More than 700 homes evacuated in Osoyoos

In Osoyoos, British Columbia, residents and visitors were warned to leave the town immediately due to the unpredictability of the flames.

More than 700 properties have been ordered to evacuate. Around two thousand people are on alert, as there is a possibility that they too will be evacuated.
