Snowstorm “crystallizes” a village in Canada and New York State

A North America was heavily devastated by a storm which led, among other consequences, to the freezing of the waters of Lake Erie, which bathes the North American states of New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio , as well as Ontario, Canada.

In Crystal Beach, one of the Canadian towns located next to this lake, the strong swells created by the storm’s wind caused waves to crash across the town. This fact – in addition to the very low temperatures – caused the ice to spread and left a “crystallized” scene.

In Hamburg, New York, something similar happened – you can see images of this phenomenon in the gallery above. Below you can see videos – shared on social media – of how the weather phenomenon hit the town of Crystal Beach.

Caused by an Arctic cold front, the storm affected the United States from the Great Lakes, near the border with Canada, to the Rio Bravo, or Grande, on the border with Mexico, affecting about 60% of the population of the country.

Heavy snowfall and cyclonic winds left thousands of people stranded in their homes, thousands of passengers stranded on Christmas Eve due to canceled flights and blocked roads, in addition to power cuts to millions of homes and businesses due to electrical infrastructure failures.

New York City reached a minimum temperature of -10.5° Celsius on Christmas Day, which had not happened since 1872, while Washington, the capital of the United States, had -10°C on the coldest Christmas since 1983 and Tampa, Florida, temperatures fell below freezing, something that hadn’t happened since 1966.
