The Brazilian women’s goalball team is called up for the Malmö Cup

The Brazilian women’s goalball team was called up last Thursday (11) for the Malmö Cup, one of the sport’s most traditional tournaments. The competition will take place from May 19 to 21 in Sweden.

In addition to Brazil, teams from Canada, Israel, Japan, United States, Great Britain, Denmark, France and Ukraine will take part in the disputes. The challenge system will be in groups of five teams each. The top two from each group meet in the semi-finals and the winners play for gold.

Brazil competes in Group B, with teams from Denmark, Canada, Israel and Ukraine. The latter will be the opponents of the Brazilians at the start of the competition, which will take place next Friday 19.

In the last edition, in 2022, the Brazilians won the bronze medal. In the match against the USA, the Brazilians won on penalties, by 2 to 1, after the equality at 5 to 5 in regular time and overtime.

The women’s team is looking to qualify for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The team will have two options to secure a spot, if they are crowned champions at the IBSA World Games in August in England and the Parapan American Games , in November in Chile.
