Video: Canada beats Ireland in Olympic-goal game

An electrifying encounter between Canada and Ireland opened the second round of Group B of the Women’s World Cup this Wednesday morning (7/26). In a match marked by an Olympic goal, the Canadians beat the Irish 2-1 and took the provisional lead of the group. On the other hand, the result announced the elimination of Ireland.

With the ball rolling, Ireland pushed forward and were rewarded after just 3 minutes with an Olympian goal from McCabe. Click here to watch.

The Irish kept the pace throughout the first half. However, in stoppage time, Canada ended up receiving an own goal from Connolly, who attempted to intercept a cross, but deflected it past his own team.

In the second stage, the 2020 Olympic champions scored the winning goal in the 7th minute, with striker Adriana Leon.

This Thursday (27/7), Australia and Nigeria complete the tour and can take the lead. Finally, in the third match of the group stage, Canada will face Australia, while Ireland will face Nigeria.
