MT Fire Department Participates in UN Humanitarian Crises Event

The Military Firefighters of Mato Grosso (CBMMT) participated, from April 22 to 28, in the IX Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW 2023), held in Geneva, Switzerland.

One of the largest international humanitarian events of its kind, Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week is promoted by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and provides a unique forum for humanitarian networks and partnerships, in the purpose of fostering collaboration. in the international response to humanitarian crises.

CBMMT, along with other military fire brigades in Brazil, was part of the national delegation attending the event. The group embarked on April 22 for the face-to-face stage of the HNPW. Before, the delegation was already following the discussions in the online stage, which started on April 17.

“Our participation demonstrates how the CBMMT has become a reference not only in Brazil but throughout the world, thanks to the investments made by the government of Mato Grosso. We understand this meeting as an opportunity to strengthen our society and publicize our work in response to major disasters,” said the General Commander of the Mato Grosso Fire Department, Colonel BM Alexandre Borges Ferreira.

The Week brought together nearly 2,000 participants from various United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations, Member States, the private sector, the military and academia.

In addition to the Commander of CBMMT, who also chairs the National Council of Military Firefighters of Brazil (Ligabom), Lieutenant Colonel BM Mário Henrique Faro Ferreira, CBMMT representative in the Land Rescue Committee (Conaster), also participated in the ‘event. Also present in the Brazilian delegation were Minister José Solla Vasquez Júnior, Coordinator of the Brazilian International Cooperation Agency, and the Director of Operations of the National Secretariat for Civil Defense and Protection, Major Braun.
